Philips’ Philharmonic Choir

Founded in 1937, the Philips’ Philharmonisch Koor (PPK) is a mixed choir of around 70 well trained and enthusiastic singers. Initially membership was exclusively for Philips employees, later it was open to everyone.

Many members still have a connection to Philips, which has been our main sponsor from the early days. The majority of our members are Dutch but we also have a growing number of expats and singers from all over the world. Most are employed by international companies located in the Eindhoven Brainport region.

Our motto: practice with dedication, perform music at a high level, and enjoy the pleasure in doing so.

Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. Euronics concert with Ilse de Lange

We give three to five concerts or series per year in various venues, which include famous concert halls like the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Muziekgebouw in Eindhoven and Tivoli-Vredenburg in Utrecht. Concerts vary from more contemporary works like Porgy and Bess to large-scale choral works in the classical concert repertoire like Bach’s Matthew Passion and Mahler’s 8th Symphony. An overview of all our recent concerts can be found here.

Conductor and accompanist

Our conductor Béni Csillag, native from Hungary, has received many awards for top performances with choirs of different signatures. The choir’s accompanist is Mark van Platen (musician/composer, winner of the Gouden Kalf 2004).

We rehearse every Tuesday at the Christiaan Huygens College, Flotowlaan 1, 5653 AD Eindhoven, Eindhoven, from 19.45 until 22.15 hrs. Each rehearsal starts with voice exercises and includes a break from 21.00 to 21.15 hrs. where coffee and tea are available. Once a month the bar is open after rehearsal for drinks and socialising. Three to four times a year the choir organizes workshops on a special topic or a masterclass. This normally takes place on a Saturday.

Joining the Choir

If you are interested to join the Philipskoor, we invite you for an audition in order to assess your voice and musicality. We can also offer advice on training if you are not yet at the required level, but do show potential and a desire to sing and perform at the appropriate level.

We expect you to invest time in home study and to regularly attend and fully participate in the rehearsals and concerts. Many of our members also follow private lessons at their own expense in order to maintain and improve their skills.

Full membership fees amount to € 220,- per year.

You are most welcome to meet us in person and attend a rehearsal, please contact the members secretary Trudy Bok through our contact form.
