Philips’ Philharmonisch Koor

The Philips Philharmonic Choir was founded in 1937 by Philips employees. The members, many of whom are expats, now come from the greater Brainport region. Together they represent eight nationalities and share a passion for singing classical music.

The Philips Choir gives 3 to 5 concerts or concert series each year, both on its own initiative and at the invitation of orchestras. The choir focuses on larger choral works with orchestra. One of those is Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, which the choir has performed annually since 1948, a tradition of more than 75 years! The Philips Choir regularly performs in the country’s major concert halls, including Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht and De Vereeniging in Nijmegen. They also don’t shy away from travelling abroad, for example during choir trips.

Since 2021, the choir has been led by conductor Iassen Raykov with Mark van Platen as accompanist. Previous conductors were Béni Csillag (2012-2021) and Gijs Leenaars (2006-2012).

The choir’s motto is: work hard, perform music at a high level and enjoy it together.
